Doconomy to provide CO2 Emission Visualization to Tokyo’s Earth hacks Marché

August 2, 2022,

Doconomy presented its digital tool, the 2030 Calculator, with great success at Earth hacks Marche, which was held in Setagaya, Tokyo. The 2030 Calculator measures the carbon footprint of products based on their emissions from production and transport to the point of sale.

Earth hacks Marché is organized by Earth hacks, a co-created platform by Hakuhodo’s new business development organization, Mirai no Jigyoshitsu, and Mitsui & Co. The event aimed to promote decarbonization through the actions of individual consumers.

The Marché highlighted sustainable products made from waste materials and substandard food materials that would otherwise be discarded. By showing the environmental values of sustainable products clearly, the event aimed to offer a new choice for consumers that contributes to decarbonization.

Doconomy’s booth at the event introduced visitors to the Lifestyle Calculator 2.0 experience, which allowed users to measure their emissions rendered by their daily activities. Doconomy also presented the Aland Index, the globally leading digital tool that translates financial transactions into CO2 impact. The team helped visitors reflect on their consumption behavior and how they contribute to climate change.

Doconomy that just opened an office in in Tokyo was founded in Sweden in 2018 to supply leading applied impact solutions to tackle climate crisis issues. Supported by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and other international organizations and global companies such as Mastercard and Mitsui & Co., Doconomy develops advanced tools to help consumers understand their impact and accelerate their change of behavior.

Doconomy supplies the Åland Index, a digital tool that automatically calculates CO2 emissions resulting from consumer behavior based on credit card payment data. The company also offers the 2030 Calculator that calculates the carbon footprint of a product based on its emission from manufacture to the point of sale.

As a global market leader and pioneer in the impact tech field, Doconomy has been named one of the Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in the World by the U.S. business magazine Fast Company and won multiple Grand Prix titles at the world’s largest festival of creativity and innovation event, the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

In March 2022, Doconomy opened its first overseas office in Tokyo and in June, it introduced Aland Index for SAISON CARD Digital, the first credit card in Japan that allows users to check their CO2 emissions based on their credit card transactions. Doconomy currently look forward to expanding its collaborations with other financial institutions and brands in Japan.

Tokyo is today one of the world’s most dynamic green finance markets, and the Japanese government is promoting climate change initiative to meet its goal of a 46% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

“The ambitious Japanese market with a high level of design integrity and accelerating climate interest has been an inspiration to the Doconomy team since the start. Working alongside our passionate and talented local partners like Mitsui has further reinforced our perspective and we are immensely proud to open in Tokyo, our first office outside of Sweden. We welcome all banks with local presence to benefit from our combination of local presence and global market leading insights.”
